Violent revolutions of the 20th century, collectively resulting in the untimely deaths of perhaps 150,000,000 innocent people, had a couple things in common: 1) they were all fundamentally socialist1, and 2) their respective countries were each deceived through a national myth. Each implementation of the national myth was tailored for its particular target population, and Georges Sorel describes it as “artificial combinations invented to give the appearance of reality to hopes that inspire men in their present activity.” 2
It always amazes me how vehemently environmentalists will cling to their viewpoint. In fact, many of them are so certain mankind is destroying the planet that, in believing themselves to be saving the planet, they have thrown off all restraint (Psalm 2:3). Apparently, they perceive their goal to be lofty; and through some twisted logic, its loftiness provides justification for employing untoward means1 in its realization.
I hope you have enjoyed this series of President’s Corner articles1, in which I undertook to show that the Scriptures unequivocally state the time for the Creation event was 6 contiguous 24 hour days, and the elapsed time since then was probably no more than 7000 years2. Also taken up in the series were a number of discussions highlighting the vast divergences of uniformity and radiometric dating from the account of Scripture. Finally, it was shown that these pillars of the modern strategy against God are so fraught with contradiction as to be defunct if not false science.
The reason most often cited among youth for distrusting the Bible is a belief that “science proves” Earth to be almost a million times older than what is clearly understood from the Biblical texts. And because this “deep time” contradicts Scriptures foundational to the Gospel, it also likely supports the damning delusion of II Thessalonians 2:11. What reprehensible “science” would produce such a “proof”?
You are probably used to the culturally implied message that radiometric dating is a special form, set apart, and foundational to science. Coming from laboratories, called “scientific”, regularly promoted, and venerated through culture, education, and government, radiometric dating appears unassailable. But remember, “the first to state his case seems right, until another comes forward and examines him.” Prov 18:17 (BSB)
In the last President’s Corner we looked at three aspects of geologic dating: the procedures, the assumptions, and the so-called “principle” of uniformity. We also found that when all three of these tiers were dutifully applied in radiometric and uranium salts dating methods, the rocks were predicted to be almost a half million times older than the oceans!
In the previous President’s Corner, we were left with somewhat of a cliffhanger: how is one to interpret the vast gulf of time between the 10,000 year age of the oceans obtained from uranium salts, and the 4,500,000,000 year age of the earth surmised through radiometric dating? Obviously both numbers cannot be correct. Even taking into account the secular assumption that the oceans could be younger than the rocks1, this nearly 6 orders-of-magnitude discrepancy remains inexplicable.
It is apparent from Scripture that the Lord supernaturally formed the Heaven and Earth over a six-day period. The Scriptures also provide an historical account of sufficient detail that any reasonable estimation of elapsed time since the creation will likely not exceed 7,000 years. And prior to the 19th Century, it appears that the Church would have agreed whole heartedly. In fact, one is hard-pressed to find any Christian writer of those times who would have said otherwise.
In the previous President’s corner, it was shown that the plain reading* of the Scripture is the correct reading. Applying this principle to Genesis chapter 1, the creation timeline became obvious: The Lord supernaturally propelled The Creation – in six literal days – from an amorphous blob into all of its exquisite detail; He then rested on the 7th day. Even the world adheres to this 7-day pattern, the week, set forth at The Creation! But now in this article, Scripture is used for estimating elapsed time since the creation week, showing how old the earth is.
When a Lawyer asked about inheriting eternal life, Jesus answered didactically with this question: “What is written in the Law?”. In response, the Lawyer quoted – verbatim – Deut 6:5 and Leviticus 19:18; and Jesus said this answer was correct.
I was impressed by a “video” my daughter had made showing a small stuffed frog opening her purse, removing its contents and then climbing inside – all by itself! Recounting how it was done, she told me she would reach into the scene, reposition the frog, remove her hand, and then shoot another frame. Not surprisingly, I believed her.
About two or three RMCF meetings ago, Tom Aanerud, an RMCF Board member who manages the lending library, gave me a copy of an article from the Chemical and Engineering News magazine entitled, “With Protocells, Scientists Probe the Chemistry that Started Biology.” The thrust of this article was, “Researchers design cell-‐like compartments to figure out how Earth’s first cells might have developed.”
Chemists at the MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology, Cambridge University, England, recently reported that they were able to experimentally map out numerous reactions, producing 2- and 3- carbon atom sugars, various amino acids, more than 50 nucleic acids and glycerol[1]. All of these constitute the basic building blocks for producing proteins, RNA and DNA, as well as lipids, which form cell membranes.
The last RMCF Speaker, David Rives, included the bombardier beetle as one of the examples in his June 12 RMCF presentation. I realize this is not a new topic for most of you, but there is some new, timely data, about the beetle’s explosive mechanism, presented in the Chemical and Engineering News Magazine (CEN), May 4, 2015.
