Dr. Jerry Simmons - Digging Dinosaurs with DocRock

Our November speaker is Dr. Jerry Simmons, AKA “DocRock”. Discovering, recovering, and restoring dinosaur bones that were brought in from the Bisti Wilderness near Farmington, NM is the main theme of the presentation. DocRock will visually teach you what was found, how recovery was done and then how the bones were prepared/restored. Hands-on examples will be available for all ages to view and touch. This is a very visual and informative presentation designed for all ages!!
Dr. Simmons was born in New Mexico into a ranching/farming family and later upon entering college completed a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from New Mexico Tech University. Tech was also the place where he came to know the Lord. Even though he was raised as an agnostic the power of the Lord’s creation was very influential in his conversion as it always gave evidence of engineering and design—something he did not see in the theory of evolution that he was educated in. Upon conversion in 1971 he sensed a call to the ministry and thereby went for a Bible degree at Friends Bible College (now Barclay College) in Haviland, Kansas. His ministry experience has now included the prison, youth work, pastoral work, teaching (elementary to college graduate level), homeschooling, and currently museum curator. Upon completion of his teacher training, he ministered as a Christian school teacher in science for twelve years in Albuquerque, NM. During this time of teaching, he completed a master’s degree at New Mexico Tech University, and later he went on to attain a Ph.D. in science education/geology from the University of New Mexico. His knowledge of the scriptures and Creation has been an ever-present part of his teaching, whether it be passive or openly. Married for 50 years this September to Linda, they have 3 children and 7 grandchildren. His greatest passion is for sharing Christ with every age through the media of Creation. His three life “Energizer-bunny” passages of scripture are Genesis 1:1, Romans 1:20, and Galatians 2:20.
