Mr. James Nickel

Talk: Why Mathematics Works

RMCF members are in for a special treat on July 8 when James Nickel of Wenatchee, WA travels to Denver to give us a presentation on his specialty, mathematics and creation.  James Nickel is a mathematics teacher at the Potter’s School, which partners with families to provide a wide range of training and resources for family discipleship and home education. He has taught high school math  nearly 30 years of experience in Information Technology in the areas of science, business, and education, holding positions from programmer to systems analyst. 

In the 1970s, as a mathematical analyst, James worked for the United States Navy designing test software for the F14A Tomcat and the Tomahawk Cruise Missile at Pt. Mugu Naval Air Station in California. He has always had a fascination with numbers, beginning with keeping baseball statistics in the 1960s. James is the author of “Mathematics: Is God Silent?” and is currently engaged in constructing a worldview-based mathematics textbook and a study on the events surrounding the Incarnation. He loves mentoring young people along with researching and writing, especially in the areas of mathematics and science, but his interests also include theology, history, government, economics, education, and law. James’ education includes B.A. (Mathematics), B.Th., B. Miss., and M.A. (Education).  James is a Senior Fellow of Mathematics and Education at the Center for Cultural Leadership and an Adjunct Professor of the History and Philosophy of Mathematics at Rivendell Sanctuary, a worldview-based college in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
