Dr. Ed Boudreaux

Talk: Abiogenesis - Chemical Origin of Life; Reasonable or Not?
Date: October 10th, 7:00pm

RMCF is privileged to have as its’ October speaker, Dr. Ed Boudreaux. The title of his talk will be Abiogenesis- Chemical Origin of Life; Reasonable or Not? Dr. Edward Boudreaux received his  PhD from Tulane University in 1962, his MS from Tulane University in 1958 and his  BS from Loyola University in 1956.

Dr. Boudreaux was a Professor of Chemistry and Chemical Physics for 29 years at the University of New Orleans. He retired Prof. Emeritus in 1991. He has numerous publications in refereed scientific journals, and has made contributions to both books and reviews.  Dr. Boudreaux has made presentations at conferences and seminars both nationally and internationally.

He has been a Creation Scientist since 1976 and was an expert witness for the Louisiana Balanced Treatment Law. He was the President of Origins Resource Association of Louisiana and the Gulf Coast, the local Creationist group. Dr. Boudreaux has been invited to many Creation Science presentations and both TV and radio appearances. He has had presentations and publications at two International Creation Conferences.

One of the evolutionist's major tenants is that life originated naturally from inanimate chemical substances. During the 1950s-60s, noted scientists bearing names such as Urey, Miller, Fox and a few others, conducted laboratory simulated experiments by reacting simple compounds which they presumed to be present in the earth's primordial atmosphere. This excluded oxygen which is currently present in the atmosphere, but included hydrogen, nitrogen, methane and water, constituting a reducing atmosphere.

When this mixture was subjected to controlled pressures and energies ( via heat, electric arc or spark), various compounds were produced, including certain amino acids which are the building blocks of proteins.

Since the essential biochemicals of life are: proteins, RNA, DNA and a few others controlling the activities of these crucial ones, it was obviously concluded that the results of these experiments were indeed indicative in explaining the chemical origin of life.

Dr. Boudreaux will show, given the products reported in the findings of the above experiments, that it is chemically most unlikely that any proteins could ever be produced from the amino acids, under the conditions described in the studies. Subsequent experiments dealing with RNA and DNA productions are subject to even more stringent restrictions than those for producing proteins.

There is no cost to attend this presentation and free refreshments will be served after the meeting. The RMCF library will be available at the October meeting and is free to all RMCF members. A video will be made of Dr. Boudreaux’s presentation and DVD’s will be available for a donation of $6. The video will show both speaker and his associated graphics.
